Sauna- bad or good?

hey guys, just curious how u guys view a sauna. not the steam ones, the kind that is just god aweful HOT. no water.. etc....

i sit in it about 10 minutes after everytime im at the gym, if i run, or lift, i sit in there after.. is this bad? good?

i know the sauna gets rid of water weight, but does it also, i guess make u lose fat as well? just trying to get an idea if the sauna is helping me, or not. just trying to thin out my belly, got some fat that is UN WANTED. i do lots or cardio

but again, is the sauna helping me, or should i cut it.

thanks
~will

Depends on your goals bro. If you're just tryin to get leaner yeah it will help to a certain extent but keep in mind you will look smaller due to loss of water weight. If you want to avoid that i would suggest bringing a big thermos with you and sipping it while you're in there.

Sauna has zero effect on fat loss and as far as any water weight loss - strictly temporary the best way to get rid of water and keep it off is a high protein diet drinking tons of water to keep your system effectively cycling water intake and outake.

I have to disagree. I don't know if you're familiar with boxing but we usually train in very hot non ventilated rooms. The reason for this is that your body has to work even harder and therefore you burn extra calories. Not trying to argue, just giving my 2 cents.

That is true - But the concept is different for sitting in a sauna AFTER a workout - After your heart rate is down or on it's way down - just sitting in there will only pull out the water not burn additional calories - it actually pulls water not only sub-q but from the muscle tissue as well if you stay in too long which is detrimental.

That is why pre-contest (bb) you do not want to sit in a sauna - you want to keep intramuscular water and there are safer, more effective ways to get rid of sub-q.

For example to back up what you are saying - when I am in show prep - I do my cardio completely covered - sweatshirt and everything for that very reason - I sweat and my body is working way harder and burning calories more effectively than if I was just in shorts and a tank.

Make sense?

sorry if im bringing up an old thread, but in reference to the carb cycling thread in the female diet section of the site, it mentions that you can rebound from going in a sauna after a workout.

my question is, to what extent can this rebound effect you? say if you have been going in the sauna (steam room acutally, im guessing the effect is the same?) nearly every day after workout for a few months!?

and if i am holding a lot of excess water, how should i go about gettin rid of it?
