Shoulder Injury

My shoulder has been bothering me for about a year now and I finally decided to go see a Dr this week. The Orthepedic dr told me I have Osteolysis of the distal clavicle. Its an injury from lifting heavy weights over a long period of time. She basically told me the only thing she can do for me now is give me a shot of cortisone and give me some anti inflammatories to take. What really surprised me is that she told me on my first visit that surgery is basically my only option if I want to keep leading an active lifestyle. After doing some research into this injury it looks like she is correct. So I have an MRI scheduled for next week and then an appointment with the surgeon the following week. This really f'in sucks but not really must I can do about it now...the only positive thing is the surgery is pretty reliable and its a scope so it shouldn't be too invasive. Hopefully my shoulders will be the same size again after I can work out with no pain.

I know a number of bros who have had that surgery a couple needed it on both shoulders. Good news they all have returned to 100% or very close after a few mts. or so.

Right now I'm at almost 5 weeks post op. I've been pushing my rehab pretty hard and I'm back in the gym. I can only do 5lb dumbells with OH presses and really light bench. I've been hitting the cardio pretty hard and my legs so all of my weight loss is in my upper body. Even lifting light at this point is painful afterwards but the physical therapist is telling me at about 10 weeks I should be pain free. Oh..I've been doing physical therapy once a week, they give me exercises and I work my shoulder at home 4 days a week.

I've had a shoulder operation and it affected me at first. After a little training, I realized that my shoulder was that much stronger. You should be ok.

Re: Shoulder Injury

I know several people who needed shoulder surgery, and they are all satisfied with the out come. Rehabing is a slow process. Don't push it, because you could end up injuring it again. I believe in the end you will be thankful.
