Bikers?

Question for any of you, I'm going to be buying a nicer bike this year (and by that I mean above a huffy, nothing over 1k :P ) and I'm wondering what you guys would recommend? I'm just a casual biker and don't do any competitions with it so I thought I would want more of a moutain bike style but my buddy says a road bike is the only way to go, what do you guys have?

I love my road bike. I have a Giant TCR C3 and its awesome! I go riding out on the highways around town. If you're planning on doing biking solely on paved road, a road bike is the way to go. If you're doing ANY off-road, you'll have to get a moutain bike. They can get pretty expensive based on if you want a full-suspension moutain bike, or just front suspension. If you're doing casual biking, I'd go with just a front-suspension. Specialized make good moutain bikes, and have all ranges of prices.

If you can find a Nisiki bike they are built for a taller bigger rider. We have one on the floor right now at the shop for about 6 bills. Orig cost on this bike was upwards of 2 grand.

I ended up going with a Cannondale, sat on a gary fisher that was pretty nice that had a longer "reach" or whatever its called, but still liked the cannondale better - happy so far, put a lot of miles on it already

My bike sits in the garage with my golf rain gear hanging on it. Makes a wonderful drying rack and it has been very wet down here.
