Rep Power: 3 ![]() | What to eat? One of the things that never ceases to amaze me is people who say 'I can't afford the nutrition to eat like you.' And 'I don't have time to eat right.' Uhhhh, say what? I started waxing philisophical on this, as I was in the kitchen preparing some protein for my next coule days eating. I thought I would throw this in to possibly give someone a new idea or perspective on what they might eat...So, here goes. I am a big fan of Sam's! Living in the small town here, there is not really a good source for protein that is lean, apart from ckn breast. That is all I have ever really eaten at contest time. My friend pointed me towards Sam's Club, which is a great source for buying in bulk but also in the selection of lean proteins available!. Just prepared the following, which will equal 8 meals of protein (I think we can agree that the carb part is usually the lesser expensive, and things like rice, oats, etc can be cooked cheaply and with little effort). 2 breakfast protein servings, 24 g protein each: one carton egg beaters cooked in pam. Cost per meal=approximately $1.15. 3 protein servings of protein from tuna patties: How to do it: One can albacore and one can light tuna, 4 tblspoons oats, 1/3 carton egg beaters. Add in some Ms. Dash. Mixture should be soupy, and the right texture will depend on your preference. This is adjusted by more or less egg beaters. Simply separate patties in skillet sprayed with Pam and cook on both sides. These taste GREAT! 30 grams protein per 3 patties from this mixture. Cost, approximate: 92 cents per pattie. 3 servings tilapia: Sold in a bag of 12 servings for approx $12. These servings are only 21 grams, so I use 1.5 of their servings to equal about 30 grams protein. This comes to $1.50 per 30 gram serving. All I do is throw 3 servings it in the oven at 380 degrees for 25 minutes w/ms dash on it. This is protein for 8 meals for the next couple days, total cost=$10! I spent about 30 minutes in the kitchen preparing. Later on, I will cook a couple other things to complete my meal plan thru end of Monday. This will provide me with good variety and will be easy for me to eat on the run. Cheers! |

I think the hardest part for people is the preparation of the diet foods. They find it too inconveniant (sp) but after a while it is just like anything else. It's a shame those people don't stick with it long enough to realize that. I actually find while dieting my day goes by more efficiently since I get up earlier and go by an exact schedule. I guess I am weird?? ![]() | |

| Member ![]() | I don't compete but I do eat clean. I would def agree that it is less expensive to eat clean and actually it is much simpler. I always say to people, how hard is it to boil a big pot of chicken or throw a large quantity into the oven and then go to the fridge and gnaw on a piece of cold chicken for snacks throughout the day - also, most workplaces have refrigerators available - or electricity (LOL) for someone to put one in their office, and lots of choices of thermos' and coolers to take it on the go. Another perk...no more (or less) eating out! That in and of itself makes it cheaper! I think people that eat crap spend way more for all those prepackaged/precooked items. I just wish I could eat fish...bluck. There is a terrific lean beef that I always buy. It is available at Giant/Martin's Grocery stores. It is called Laura's lean beef. It is terrific - no growth hormones, no antibiotics and it is recognized by the American Heart Association. There are many other great things about it. Go to www.laurasleanbeef.com to find out more and access tons of great recipes! You can also locate a store that carries it near you.
