Rep Power: 7 ![]() | protein sources the last week for show I got on this topic with a friend a few days ago. Just wondering what type of protein sources you guys ...or gals...rely on the last week before a show. Mainly during the sodium depletion stages. Last time I just kept my same diet and boiled my chicken during sodium depletion stages. Any tricks you do during this time? |

Rep Power: 7 ![]() | thanks for the posts guys. This has always been a toss up for me when it comes to dieting. Everyone I know has a different opinion about sodium depletion and loading. Some do it earlier in the week and some do it later in the week prior to a contest. I always thought depleting around thursday before a saturday show would be best. What I do is to sodium load for around 2 days...say tuesday and wednesday...then deplete thursday , friday, and saturday. What do you think??? For the days i sodium deplete I would stick to just chicken and tuna. Because I know this is the only foods where I can decrease the sodium amounts by boiling the food. For tuna I would rinse the tuna in hot water for around 3 minutes. Anyway, let me know what you guys think |

| I always stick with the tyson fryer breasts in the supermarket and just rinse them good with distilled water and grill them plain. Can't do the tuna thing anymore...just makes me sick thinking about it. mpresiv, looks like you and I do about the same thing getting ready for a show. I know there is still some sodium in the chicken when I rinse them off but like MWC said above.....ya gotta have enough to keep your electrolytes balanced so I just do not add any extra stuff to the mix and rely on what is in the chicken to keep me from cramping. Have not had any problems yet doing it that way. BTW.....plain boiled chicken would make me puke. |

Rep Power: 7 ![]() | Thanks for the input supernova. Yeah the tuna is really sh*tty tasting, but it is a good source of protein... Also easy to prepare. Like you guys said we probably need some sodium in us to keep from cramping and things like that. I will definitely consider that next time |
