Question carbs during a precontest diet

Does anyone have carbs after training when doing a pre contest diet?

I am trying that and I find my weight is going UP instead of down...whats going on here?

Ric,
I do. I train first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and have anywhere from 50-75 g of carbs from oatmeal right after training. Best meal of the day! :)

Me too. I really think that it is important to have some good carbs after training especially when precontest.

Just don't over do them. ;)

I think that some complex carbs like oats are OK post workout on a contest diet but I stay far away from the dextrose spike that allot of these guys do.

my thoughts exactly. I think it would be fine offseason but not precontest. I'd stick with complex only.

How about maltodextrin ? Thats a complex carb but is VERY high GI ....yikes !

Ok so the carbs from things like corn would be good enough for my recovery ?

my trainer is saying dextrose before i workout is ok because it will give you the carbs you need and you will burn it off. but after my workout i have a steak and red/white potatoes.

I have some carbs post w/o when cutting otherwise you get flat and weak next training day. The majority of carbs pwo are stored as muscle glycogen not as fat. 1 gram of stored carbs in the muscle also retains 1 gram of water so weight stays up a bit.
