tonsillitis

ok i have tonsillitis it started on saterday, but i ended up starting a ZPak (zithromax) on sunday and also going Wake Boarding. i think the wake boarding made it much worse. anyway i finished all the antibiotics i was given and now its 5 days later and my throat and ears hurt worse than they did on day 2. is this normal? how long does it take to clear up? i dont think the antibiotics did anything for me? if i go see the doc is there anything else he can do for me?

There could be a couple of reasons for this. It could be becase your tonsilitis is viral, in which case an antibiotic such as zythromycin wont do anything but prevent a secondary infectiong (Antibiotics dont work on viruses). It also could be somewhat resistant to zythromycin and just not be responding. I would probably call the doc back who prescribed it to you and see if you can get something else prescribed. You might need a throat culture to see what type of bacteria it is. At any rate, I would call him back and let him know that it didnt work.

This is a distinct possibility....I had an ear infection, which sounds like what you may have now....is your hearing worse on one side, or both? Maybe a feeling like you have water in your ear? Anyway, it took a couple of different antibiotics to find one that worked. I also had tonsillitis hundreds of times...eventually no med worked b/c the bug was "too deep" or so I was told...had them out.
