Knee problems?

OK...I'm gonna put ya's to work!

My Girl friend has got really bad knees (not what you think!) They have recently swollen up pretty bad to the point of packing them in ice when she gets home from work. Her PHY therapist at work isn't very helpful either. I've recently prescribed her to take wobenzyme and has made wonderful recovery, the swelling has gone down and the pain has subsided...she has also been taking Glucosamine with chondroitin and msm, for a couple of months now. Is there anything I have missed, or she could add in aiding recovery. OH there was also what her therapist thought was a sist in the back of her knee, this has since gone away after a week of wobenzyme, she also visited her doctor to get some anti-inflamatories and he sent her away empty handed, stating that she was doing fine without them (because of the wobenzyme) I don't know if he was pissed that she went the naturalpathic way rather than the pharmaceutical way? As I find most Doctors deal in cures rather than prevention? Any thing else she could do?

Thanx...

Mallet

First of all do you know why she has had the swelling and pain? Does she have a diagnosis (Torn ACL, PCL, MCL, Meniscus, ect...). I have to admit that Im not big on naturalpathic medicine because I like to skip right to a method that I know will work. My fiance is an RN and Radiology Tech and she is still big on Herbs and such from back when she worked for a Naturalpathic doctor. Its hard to say what would help her without knowing what it causing it. Has she had a MRI or bone scan done? Viox is a great drug for this type of thing.................its sort of like a really strong Ibuprofin. I can recommend some PT exercises if I know what type of injury she has and a little more about it.

Thanx Joeyz! She was prescribed anti's before I met her for a while, then stopped taking them for about 10 months, then after joggin a couple of times she started experiencing some soreness in one knee, it didn't seem like a big deal at the time, I didn't know her history?..and then a few weeks went buy with just walking now, no more running, and it just swelled up pretty bad one day and remained that way for more than a week, after speaking with my teacher (naturalpathic doctor) he recommended the wobenzyme, and within about 2 days there was considerably less swelling and after about a week it had seased! I urged her to still visit her GP for X-rays, or just to have a closer look, and he dismissed her, just saying whatever yourt doing seems to be working, i think you'll be fine?

I completely agree. If it's tendon/ligament-related or cartilage-related will make a world of difference. If it is cartilage-related (torn/degenerating meniscus), then Adequan is about as amazing as it gets. I've sung its praises as if I were a sales rep, but the stuff is pure magic. Without really knowing the cause though, all you can do is treat symptoms IMO (anti-inflammatories).

JoeyZ and einstein are right. Bro get her some naproxen sodium ( aleve ) 2 220mg tabs every 12 hours works real well and easy dosing. Just remember to take it with food.

Thanx for all the advice my friends!

masswithclass...what title would this specialist go under? She's already seeing her physiotherapist at work, without much help...she just recommended going to her GP, The lady could just be poorly qualified, not sure?

MRI at least, and a good orthopedic knee specialist. I went to the orthopedics doctors that do the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Ditto.......Mallet, maybe you guys need to find a new GP!!! They all seem to be that way though. It's extreme, and possibly last ditch, but I know it helped my father and his friends....arthroscopy. He continually had bony fragments being deposited within the lining, from wear and tear (and you did say she used to jog/run?), and his knee ALWAYS swelled up like a balloon. We don't have orthopedic surgeons per se, but even just a good surgeon should be able to see on an xray, but yes, MRI's are better (although here you must be near death or close to it, or on the other hand, you'll die waiting for one). If you can afford it, just swing over state-side and pay......much quicker, and you won't have to argue with your doc to get one.....although I do believe she must refer you somewhere, or give you some leads. Anyway, the fragments were removed with a little scope done through an incision (small)......most come back, but he's been lucky.....I know lots of people have had knee replacements because no one can seem to solve the problems. Good luck!!!
