Would omega 3 give me any problems? how about supplements to take/stay away from. have lifted weights foe about 20/25 years. nothing major just maintaining and staying alive. appreciate anything you can offer. Re: Heart Attack in 2000

First of all, welcome to the board. 61 and a health seeking attitude is a rarity from what I am used to. Keep it up.

In regard to your question, you already know that you have a compromised cardiovascular status............you have already basically told me that by listing your history. Its great that you have decided to do something about it. Im curious..............you have a past history of two MI's..............Do you take aspirin or plavix as well? You should avoid anything that is a stimulant, and should follow the american heart diet. Honestly, we all should be following the american heart diet as far as that goes, but rarely does it happen. You should avoid anabolics if that is something that you are considering. I am assuming that you are hypertensive from the beta blocker you listed. Many anabolics can cause fluid retention which will only compound your hypertension even further. Fish oil is something you should definately talk to your doctor about and in my opinion has many benefits. I am a big fish oil advocate and take it myself. Aside from fish oil lowering cholesterol, it also has anti-arrhythmic properties and serves as a blood thinner which in the case of a history of MI is going to be beneficial in most cases. Good luck and once again, Welcome. Please feel free to post back if I have missed anything.

Re: Heart Attack in 2000

Focus more on staying leaner and decreasing bodyfat. I would avoid creatine as any increase in weight could put undue stress on the heart. Also stay away from Nitric Oxide as it could be contraindicated if you are taking any other vasodilators for blood pressure and could lead to hypotension.

Good Luck! AE
