Bloodwork Question

A buddy of mine just got some bloodwork back. He has an extremely high BUN count and high creatinine levels. How serious is that and what can he do to treat it?

Abnormally high BUN

High levels of BUN may indicate kidney disease or failure; blockage of the urinary tract by a kidney stone or tumor; a heart attack or congestive heart failure; dehydration; fever; shock; or bleeding in the digestive tract. High BUN levels can sometimes occur during late pregnancy or result from eating large amounts of protein-rich foods. A BUN level higher than 100 mg/dL points to severe kidney damage.

How extreme are we talking here? Usually this indicates some form of a renal (kidney) change/damage wheater is serious or otherwise. Who did his lab? If it was a doc or a hospital what did they say and is he on a cycle? If he is on ANYTHING he needs to stop it NOW and figure out why this is happening. Do you have any more info?

Ditto what Joeyz said....definitely something up with the kidneys, and if he's on anything he needs to stop pronto til it's straightened out.

I don't know what the numbers were. Tests were done by his doctor who wants him to go to the hospital. He's too contrary to go, but I'll keep on him! Yes, he's on cycle (prop, tren, var - that I know of).

If his doc wants him to go....that's a pretty strong sign that the numbers were alarming to him. He really needs to go....you keep on him!

He needs to understand or YOU need to make him understand that he could very well die if this isnt addressed. Like PL and NN said, he needs help for this NOW or at least needs some additional tests NOW.

Keep us updated...and make sure he knows that once a kidney, or both, are shot, that's it.....some are lucky enough to get transplants...but then a lot are rejected by the body. And if they discover, as I'm sure they would, that it was likely due to his AAS use, I doubt he'd ever get a chance to get a kidney. We can't stress enough how important it is for him to go.
