Re: Prayers for my lil girl

Why doesn’t the Dr. just give her a I.V. broad-spectrum antibiotic and just get it over?

Do you have any idea how hard it would be to get a 2 yearl old to keep an iv in? She would rip it out.

Re: Prayers for my lil girl

Sorry not to sound rude but it is done everyday many times a day at the hospital I’m at. Butterfly needled in the foot. Compared to surgery, I think that I would try an I.V., but best of wishes for you and you little girl.

That's no kidding - My son was 2 months old, they put the IV in his scalp and he tried to get it out at that young age!

BG - we finally did ear tubes for my little one (now 9). It's important for them to be able to hear well from such a young age (ear infections block that ability to hear) so they can speak well and understand what they're hearing even if they can't respond yet. Thier little minds are soaking it all in... My little guy was put totally out for the procedure and we had to make him fast: thank goodness they scheduled him first thing in the am (he was just over a year old so he was starving and needed the comfort of food when he woke up) and he was done by 8:30 am. Waking up was hard for him (I think it has to do with survival instinct, esp when they're so young... it's really scary for them to be put out via anesthesia), but the first thing he wanted (after he threw a huge fit) was a bottle/to eat. And some Tylenol. I wish they had told me this so we had come better prepared!

The reason they don't do broad spectrum or really strong antibiotics is because there are so many antibiotic resistant things out there... If you expose you child to the really "tough stuff", the germs adapt and become resistant and the body also adapts... sooner or later things come along and the bugs are resistant: Nothing we have will kill it. Better to prolong the cure than make a bacteria (or bug of some kind) that can't be killed.

Hang in there, Mom. You're doing what's best for your baby. Ask alot of questions - what can I do to make my baby comfortable, etc, feeding right after the surgery, tylenol if appropriate, etc. Question them to death; they will be happy that you're such a caring, concerned Mom!
I'll be praying for you both. Strength, Mom!

Ali- Thank you so much. I have been asking questions like crazy. My doctor doesn't want to do any kind of surgery till next year when she is 3. I am kind of on the line about that because I dont want her to have to suffer through ear infections all year long. But I guess my doctor has a reason for it.

So far it doesnt seem like this antibiotic is working to well. I take her back to the dr. next week. So we will she how she is doing then. Right now I am doing what ever I can to just make sure she is comfortable.

Thank you everybody for your thoughts and prayers. It means the world to me.

You're a good Mommy and sounds like your dr is hoping she outgrows them. I hope she does too. They grow so darned fast that they're doing one thing one day (catching every cold they're exposed to) then the next they're a totally different little person (immuned to everything!)! She's at the right age for that, too (just not having ear infections/catching colds/ etc any more...). wonder if the shape of the ear canal changes about now or something?

Yup - comfortable is good, and get some rest for you, too BG! You're both in my prayers.
