He always said that he wanted to die in his bed and not in a hospital or on the side of the road, etc...so he got his wish. He will be cremated today and the service will be on saturday so I have to drive all the way back down to NC again....

He was only 53 years old and was still pumping iron right up to the day he passed away so good for my old man on that one.

Just so you know me and the old man did not talk for months because of a issue I had with him so that has been eating me alive but when I talked to him and explained myself I really feel that it is all okay now and he is okay with what happened. I hope he can forgive me and i can forgive myself.......

If you are upset with your mom or dad please do not hold it and get over it because you never know when they will be gone!

Thank you all again and if I am not on for a few please do not think I have left, I will be back!

My father passed a little over a yr ago We hadnt been on speaking terms for over a yr. I got a call at work out of the blue saying i needed to come to the hospitol and decide whether the machines were gonna be unhooked or not.As the oldest of his children i had power of attorney by default. I was devastated.
He had stroked repeatedly until the man i knew and loved was only a shell . I was told he could hear and understand me but was unable to respond in anyway.
Some of the toughest days of my life.I went into the chapel and cryed like a baby. I never cryed or showed emotion again until he had passed. He raised me to be strong I wasnt about to let him down.
The only real difference between you and I was he was alive when i said my goodbye. I sat and held his hand and explained to him what i was gonna do and why it had to be done.
I sat with him for days while his body slowly shutdown. The whole time beating myself up about what i was doing. I was taking life away from the man who had given me life. He died at 10:37 am on a tuesday he was 59. After he passed I felt something i couldnt quite put my finger on tellin me i was forgiven and he was proud of me.

One of my fathers favorite sayings from my childhood when he was half in the bag kept replaying in my mind.
"I will make a man out of you if it kills me boy"

Id like to tell you it gets easier but right now it doesnt feel any easier. I'll send you my cell If you wanna talk to someone who has walked a mile in your shoes.

I'm with AT on this....I faced it with my mother. Get ahold of me and I will give you my cell if you need to talk. I have been there. Can't imagine how you are feeling....I just know it is never easy.
