Australian canoe champion banned 15 months for steroids

SYDNEY, Australia – Australian world champion kayaker Nathan Baggaley has been banned for 15 months for using steroids.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport on Tuesday found Baggaley guilty after he tested positive for the steroids stanozolol and methandienone during an out-of-competition test conducted by the Australian Sports Drug Agency for Surf Life Saving Australia on Sept. 13.
Baggaley, a three-time world champion who won two silver medals in Athens last year, pleaded his innocence, saying he had never knowingly taken the banned drugs.
The positive test forced Baggaley to withdraw from the Canoe Marathon World Championships in October.
