Phone in the gym!

Dave Tate called me yesterday to have a yarn about some stuff, and I had to run outside so my phone didn't drop the call as soon as I picked up; he immediately started breaking balls, asking me if I was in the middle of working out (knowing full well I would never have a phone on me in the gym)!

Then today, a mere day later...I called a friend and ....lo and behold....my friend picked up the phone in the middle of a workout! :stalking:

I know the type. Usualy have one foot up on the bench, talking loud so that we might all look as say "wow, he must be important". Problem is you look like a tool, or low level functionary. Someone thats at someone elses beck and call 24/7. It doesnt say "i'm important", it says "i'm someone importants personal assistant"...... or bitch.

i got BLASTED by my trainer last yr for picking up my phone in the middle of a work out - - although i was WAITING for a call specifically from him. good thing my trainer didn't call me while i was training tonight as i again had my phone w/ me b/c i was waiting on an important call! i know when i should and should not be answering the phone, talking to someone between sets. good thing i'm not a newbie in the gym!

its going on my 3rd super-d-duper low carb day and i just got back from a hour of freezing cold cardio. i don't feel well. i'm ready to take my contest prep and shove it - - i don't have much of a sense of humor! at all!

Listen, sometimes its important. AS a trainer, I need to have mine on me at all times, its how we do business. However: you move off the floor, you do not use a ringtone (vibe only), and if you absolutely have to pick up, you keep a hushed tone and limit yourself to 30 secs.

That said, I threatened death to one of these irritating little fucks who come in a pack of 5 to generally fuck up our freeweight area during peak hours. He started talking loudly on a NEXTEL TWO-FUCKING-WAY for 5-10 min. I nearly lost my shit. My client was in hysterics.

I need to see stuff like that more often. It always puts me in a good mood and has me smiling for days.

As a former tool, I not only carried my cell phone, but a big, stupid gym bag with, what felt like, 25 lbs of files/briefs with me to every station in the gym, fighting hard to keep it out of the walkway when doing my sets. But, If I was called, I immediatly grabbed my mobile filing cabinet and stepped away from the machines so that the non-tool type could finish up and get on with their lives.

Yeah its all about respect.

THANK YOU!! Exactly! i'm not allowed to get personal phone calls at work. when your life consists of gym/work/gym/sleep. if its extremely important, i take it (this was the first time since i answered brian's call last year!) - - quickly, just as you said. my phone, btw, is always on vibrate.

you've all seen my physique, i'm not one of those girls who pussy-foots around the gym, phone in one hand, pink dumbbell in the other!!!

My job requires me to have my phone on 24hrs a day. So when I'm in the gym and say ATF walks in or calls it is directed to me or our store gets robbed etc...But since I have been building my own gym wont have much of a problem now.
