Mike's Memorial Service

Mike's memorial service was today. The weather was beautiful and sunny just as he would have loved it. In some ways that made the day even more sad because he would have wanted to be on his motorcycle. He loved the sun and prior to his death, there were very few days around here that he could ride. Anyhow, the service was beautiful and very meaningful. It turned out to be a very comforting day. After crying constantly since friday, I was worried about how sad of a day it would be, it was so wonderfully done that I and I think everyone else was comforted by the end of the services. Mike's mom and two brothers spoke at the memorial service. I spoke first. I spoke on behalf of musclesci members at the memorial. I read the emails that I received from people that wanted me to read on their behalf and I also included some anonymous quotes from the threads. I read many of the wonderful and heartfelt things that all of you had to say about our beloved Mike. Everyone was so touched by the long arm of compassion and support that he extended on the boards to which he was a member/mod. People had no idea. Everyone present at the memorial thought of Mike as being shy and introverted to some extent and they were so thrilled and shocked to hear of his assistance that he tried to provide to other bodybuilders. Of course the sites to which he was a member is still a secret. I did not reveal any of the sites. One or two people asked me what sites he was affilitated with and I politely told them that I did not have Mike's permission to reveal that and he always chose to keep that private and I was going to continue to honor his privacy. That was very well received by the few that asked, they truly understood. Mike's parents are so grateful to all of you for contributing to the funds being raised for Mike. His family is discussing the possibility of purchasing a memorial for Mike that has an eternal flame (light). On another thread, I explained a few other things that are going to be done for him here locally, including a foundation that would give money for scholarships or that would provide funds for dialysis in some way. We have not sorted out all of the details in that as of yet. The personal training facility was Mike's dream to own and all of us are committed here to keeping Mike's dream alive. The facility will go on and we are all going to work hard to make it thrive in his absence. I don't know how many of you know this, but a prime example of how unselfish Mike was that he was an organ donor. He donated his corneas, skin and bones, I don't know if they were able to harvest any of his organs or not given his condition. He was obviously an amazing man in death as he was in life. Many people will be helped by his magnificent donation. I am not sure, but from what I understand, he donated veins as well. I am not sure if this is all a routine part of being an organ donor or if he opted to donate extra, but none the less, what a giving man he has been. Love ya Mike Hoover!

Like I stated in the pm to you Vorcacious....I never got to meet him personally ..but he was a top notch guy....I know the service was one of the hardest things to go to..but being around people that knew him and loved him had to be a great sense of comfort to everyone there. May you all hold his memory close...God be with you all
