wrist forearm problem

Its been like this for a while but its getting way annoying and i feel its affecting my progress. When I do curls my forarms about 3 inches up from the outer part of my wrist hurts real bad. I know my form is good. I dont max I usually work out in the low to mid 100s for weight but even with low weight it hurts. Any suggestions? Maybe ways to strengthen it. I though about using wrist straps but i already have gloves and I dont want to be one of those guys

Re: wrist forearm problem

I think I get this too every once in a while. In my case, it doesn't seem to be tendonitis but more of a nasty ass forearm pump. I have mild tendonitis in one elbow and this is very different. I would like to know how to deal with this as well.

Re: wrist forearm problem

If the pain you are referring to is similar to shin splints on the back of your forearms then that is the tendon pulling away from the bone. It is common with guys that do alot of preacher curls. Do not let your wrists bend when performing the lift, if you do you are only stretching the tendon more.

I would suggest leaving that lift alone for a few weeks and then ease back in to it, if you keep doing the same thing then you know the story. You've just inflamed the tendon a bit, it will diminish with time off.

Good Luck!

Re: wrist forearm problem

I think it comes down to just identifying the problem and how to avoid injury. I cant do reverse curls and hammer curls cause it effects my elbows. Im fine with other types of curls but not them. Just try to identify the exercises that cause your pain. Maybe that would help

Re: wrist forearm problem

I dont really do too many curl exercises but i'm definitely going to take a break. I used my buddies wrist straps and it didnt hurt so I will try that too

If you don't already, start training your forarms...
this could help, but don't do it right before back day!!

Re: wrist forearm problem

Hi Layin, its sounds like you may have carpel tunnel syndrome[tenis elbow], golfers and lifter as well as climbers can suffer from this, you can feel it around the forearme and and as high as the lower tricep.

A good way to rehab and prevent this, is to get 2-3 elastic bands and wrap em around your fingers, with you hand closes, then open your hand and expend the elastic bands, work up to 5-6 band, rep range 15, set 2-3.
2-3 months, you should be fine, and try switching to heavier weight and less reps, or take out that excerise for 2-3 months also.

Alot of the time CTS is caused by overexersion of the grip muscles, causing an over development of these muscles and an imbalance in the muscular and tendon function in your hand and forearm, which in turn will start to cause pain. This is why golfer and tennis players suffer alot with it, due to griping something.

I have several friends whom suffered this and also did not lift exception loads even by thier own standards. Needless to say, the ones that listend, no longer have the aches anymore.

Hope this helps.
P.S. You can by specialised bands for this on ironmind website, but its cheaper and just as affective justto use normal elastic bands.
