Re: Physical therapy

Guys,
Went to the sports medicine guy today and after taking x-rays, and discussing the problem with my shoulder, he ended up giving me what seemed like a 15cc cortizone shot in my right shoulder. (Rotator cuff, see my rant in the flame section about doctors.)

Discussing how I should conduct myself in the gym, he mentioned that I am to lift light for three weeks and then start slowly working back to my max.

After lifting really light tonight (No isolation exercises), I realized that I am not going to be able to put any pressure on my shoulder for quite a while.

I've fought hard to get the gains that I have, and am not wanting to take a three week "vacation" from the gym and sit around doing nothing.
Does anyone have any resources that have some kind of training that I can do in the meantime? I'm thinking along the lines of physical therapy conditioning exercises. Sounds goofy, but I know nothing about physical therapy.
Thanks!

Re: Physical therapy

I saw some of the PT exercises from my surgery...just the other day. If they did not get thrown out, I'll scan them and shoot them to ya. If not, maybe I can get another copy from the PT office....I paid 'em enough.

That may not be what you want, but it should help some. Take more time getting back into it than the doc said. I pushed mine and that led to an even longer layoff.

Re: Physical therapy

Without knowing the exact location and type of rotator cuff injury it's hard to recommend any excercises specificly. You can ask your doc if they have any that they can give you, they usually have a welth of info on this subject.

I'll repeat swellin's warning though. Go easy, you may loose some of your gains in the next 3 wks, but imagine the gains you will loose if you're out for 4-6 months because of surgery.

Stay safe.

Re: Physical therapy

Swellin,
Thanks bro, any information would be most helpful. If you find that info, send it my way.

German, when he explained it, he told me that the humerus had pinched the bursa and caused it to get inflammed (Bursitis?) as well as having an ever so slight hook on the acromion.
The only reason this scared me into taking it easy is the fact that he said if the cortosone didn't help, and I didn't take it easy and let everything heal, he'd have to open up my shoulder, go in and clean it up.

Luckily, my bro's that I lift with have promised me that they'd help keep an eye on me and help with the rehab, as I can be stubborn and stupid at times.

I figured that I'd start blasting my legs during this time as well, and get closer to my goal of 2k on the press.

Re: Physical therapy

I've had bursitis before, it can be a very nagging injury if you don't treat it with the cortazone and rest. It's also a injury seen almost exclusively in lifters. Listen to your body and your doc or you will be out for a long recovery.
