| New Member ![]() | Need help. So my girlfriend wants me to start training her. I dont know jack about female training. She looks fine,5'6, 115-120 doesnt need to lose much weight, if any. I just need a little help on getting her started. She doesnt really wanna bulk up to much either. She wants to get "tone". I need some good Exersizes, sets, reps, etc... Any input would be good. I know this is probably not the right place to put this but im not allowed to post in the female training board. |

| New Member ![]() | Women do not get "bulky" because they lack the necessary testosterone. Train her as you would a man, and for god's sake teach her how to squat. Forget about magic exercises and amazing set/rep formulas that tone you. Forget about high reps for definition. High reps won't do jack because they do not stress the body enough to grow stronger. For tone, there's only one solution: low body fat. So that'll be diet and cardio. As for the content of the training, I'd get her familiar with the basics - squats, lunges, that kind of thing. She should also not fear the bench press. If you have her deadlift you should only do it about every other week, cause it's a very stressful exercise, especially when you're squatting once a week on top of that. Shouldn't be hard to organize an effective routine for her. |

| Senior Member ![]() | i agree w/ stratus. i lift hard and as heavy as possible and can't get "bulky" naturally. like he said, that is a misconception. women won't get big if they pick up wts. clean up her diet, train her as you train yourself and add in some cardio after liftin and she should lean out and get the look u seem to be going for. lastly, a lot of it depends also on her body type and genetics. for example, i naturally have short, stocky, thick legs. i can't squat heavy or lift too heavy w/ my legs b/c i don't like they way they look w/ too much muscle under fat. so my advice is train her the way u would train yourself and monitor her gains. then u can tweak from there as necessary. good luck!

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Cruser - You can post in the female forums if you have any questions relating to female training, diet, etc. Please feel free to do so. As Sienna said - don't worry too much about her getting "bulky". Clean up her diet, train her with medium weights to start and she will do fine. |

It seems to be an ever-growing trend for people to stringently avoid bouts of hard work - or more to the point, to avoid anything at all that is unpleasant. One look around a gym and it's easy to tell the guys and gals who really work their asses off, versus the ones who delude themselves into thinking they're somehow helping themselves (I would swear that some of these people don't expend any more energy in their workouts than if they had stayed at home and knitted a sweater). For the ones that can withstand the suffering of a hard workout and power through it, knowing it's not supposed to be easy - for the ones who understand the meaning of the word "work", I salute you. | |
