Re: Intensity Techniques.....Do You Use Any?

Does anybody here use intensity techniques in their workouts.......... such as:
Super-Sets
Tri-Sets
Giant-Sets
Drop-Sets
5x5
Pre-Exhaust
Push/Pull
Forced -Reps
45-60 seconds rest between sets

If so,let us know what you do,why you do it,and which ones have worked for you or not!!

At times, I use all of them except for forced reps, and I beleive they all have some merit, depending on your goals, and they can really make training much harder ,more productive, and much more intense!!

Re: Intensity Techniques.....Do You Use Any?

I have used just about all those at one time or another.....I change my routine up weekly. I never allow my muscles to get use to the some ol style of training. It might be when I walk in the door of the gym before I know what format I will approach that day.

Supersets - I use these when I need a change of pace or when I want to pre-exhaust a muscle first....like doing db flyes then bench press in a superset format. I may even use them when I want to get out of the gym in under 45 mins. I do superset bis/tris just about every week and will superset chest/back as well on occasion. It hard on you mentally to superset quads/hams but the leg pump is well worth the pain endured.

Tri-sets - I have used when my time is limited in the gym or to really get that burn and pump feeling. It's also mentally challengeing to keep pushing yourself to complete three exercises without resting.

Giant Sets - I have done but I'm not a big fan of them.

Drop-sets - Yes, I really like these. I use these to shock my muscles and to make it where I don't get bored doing the same ol style of training.

5 x 5 - I use these when I'm strength training along with 10 x 3.....longer rest periods are needed but the added weight is awesome. I really like the strength training style.

Pre-exhaust - I kind covered that in my superset one...I really like these on chest, but use it with delts as well. I have even done a leg ext then squat pre-exhaust.....now that ones tough.

Forced reps - I have used them to help get past a sticking point. It very easy to get injured once this state is reached if proper form isn't used. Negatives are another style I don't use much but I have to get past sticking points.

45-60 second rest between sets - I use these when I'm trying to cut up or wanting alittle more cardio out of my weight training. These are very taxing and will test your inner self and how hard you will push.....just have to make sure to check the ego at the door.

Re: Intensity Techniques.....Do You Use Any?

Same here BB,I never do quite the same workout twice in a row.

I also use 3x3 and have used 6x6,8x8,and 10x10 but it`s been a while now.

All useful training protocols to help you break out of a sticking point and to avoid stagnation.

Plus they are hard as a bitch to do if you do them correctly, and training hard is the only way I train.
