The two best ways to burn fat is doing cardio after weight lifting or early morning cardio. It's best to do cardio after weight training. You burn fat when you have no carbs in the body. If you do cardio after weight training your body is depleted of glycogen and it taps into the stored energy "fat". If you do cardio before you lift, you won't have the much energy to really hit the weights hard. Now there is nothing wrong with doing 5 to 10 mins of low intensity cardio as a warm-up and then stretching. It's recommeneded to do that to get the blood flowing going to the muscles. But most people skip out on that and just go right to the lifting. Some people also opt for fasted cardio, which is another option. But the key is if you do cardio on an empty stomach then you should have a low carb protien shake with some BCAA's and extra glutamine, so you don't burn muscle.

When I cutting I did all my cardio after I lifted and leaned out nicely. When I was on the Body for Life program I did fasted cardio and lost weight, too. Try doing 20-30 minute sessions of low to moderate intensity cardio after you lift for several weeks and observe the results. You will definately like them.

Re: Cardio

I have 5gm of glutamine and 5gm of creatine then I have 2 or 3 scoops of whey with water all preworkouts I take a couple of BCAA's about 30 to 45 Min before my shake. Then I do the same post work out but I have my shake with about a 1/2 cup of milk 1/2 cup of water and 3 egg whites.. I have been happy with the muscle gains (they could always be better) But I am very unhappy with the remaining belly fat I cant get rid of.. it is as though I have hit a plateau is this possible???

Re: Cardio

After lifting would be better. If you have the time the best way is to do cardio first thing in the am and then lift later in the afternoon or eve. I do that a lot except for leg day where i'll do after lifting.
