Creatine and Motrin

Quick question about Creatine and 800mg of Motrin.

I've tried a few different Creatine supplements over the past year, can't even remember the first couple because it's been a while now, but this week I tried LG Science's Cold Fusion EX. While I did feel the effects on the NO, I seem to have some weird feeling with Creatine. It really seems to upset my system, my stomach feels weird and it is just a bad feeling all over, almost like I'm coming down with something whenever I have tried to take it. I know the positive effects that Creatine is supposed to give, but for whatever reason, I'm not sure I can continue to take it. Has anyone else here experienced this with Creatine before, and if so did you find a Creatine that worked without the crummy feeling?

Also, I read in another post were Ibuprofren which is what is in Motrin, has negative side effects on muscle growth. I typically take 800mg of Ibuprofren first thing in the morning to keep my knees from swelling up, and to keep the arthritis pain under control, anyone know if there is someway to ween myself off of this to keep these negative side effects down? I am taking Glucosamine Chondroitin MSM to help with my joints, and it helps but I've still had problems with my knees and shoulder after heavy cardio or working out those areas hard.

Re: Creatine and Motrin

Bro did a doc tell you to take that kind of motrin???? That will kill your kidneys ???? I would wien my self of that as soon as I could if I could take the pain or find some other things that are not as bad celabrex is still out and is less damaging then motrin..

Re: Creatine and Motrin

I don't claim to be an expert by any means but gastrointestinal issues are fairly common with creatines, esp creatine monohydrate, which is a component of LG Science's Cold Fusion EX. The new kre-alkalyn creatine products are supposed to have a much better adverse event profile and less subcutaneous water retention as well. It could also easily be that the combo of creatines, NO2, and yohimbine in such a quick rush is simply overwhelming you. I have a couple of friends who get sick each and every time they drink these type of things though I have no problems with them. If you can stand the queasy feeling your body may (or may not) adapt to it over time. You can also try eating something to help slow absorption to a more manageable level. Hope that helps a little!

Re: Creatine and Motrin

samax64 is absolutely right about the chronic use of ibuprofen burning a hole in your gut. Current medical literature says that 70+% of all gastrointestinal ulcers are due to the chronic overuse of NSAIDs (Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) which include aspirin, ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil, Nuprin) and naproxen (Aleve). More commonly they can significantly raise the risk of GERD (heartburn) and increase the severity in those who have pre-existing GERD. Adding a stimulant/creatine/NO cocktail to a GI tract already sensitive due to the chronic use of NSAIDs could easily add up to some nausea. The COX2 inhibitors like Celebrex were once thought to have decreased GI side effects but not so much any more. Doesn't leave you with a lot of choice in pain medication if your knees are killing you but it might be something you could ask your doctor. There are medications like Enbrel that are specifically for rheumatoid arthritis but they tend to be very expensive. The actual medical literature on glucosamine and chondrointin, etc is sparse and not encouraging but if it seems to help it may be worth the money. Another one some bodybuilders seem to like is cissus though it didn't seem to do much for me even at higher than recommended doses.

Re: Creatine and Motrin

I didn't even consider the heartburn aspect of the combination, but I did have a serious case the other day after taking the Cold Fusion EX. As far as the Motrin, yeah it's doctor prescribed to help control the joint pain and swelling. I've been taking this dosage for about 8 years now off and on. It wasn't everyday for most of that time, but the past three years or so it has gotten to the point that I'm taking it everyday. I try to skip days, especially weekends and occassionally during the week to try to give my insides some type of break from it. But there are some days that I have to take more then one per day. But, I am being monitored by my doctor, and the Amry Flight Surgeon knows about it as well. Just had a physical as well and the blood work was good to go.
As far as the kre-alkalyn creatine, I've been thinking about buying some of that, but have been hesitant due to my past and recent experience. I may still get some and give it a shot.
Thanks for the responses and the suggestions.
