Re: pack on the pounds

I found this interesting and wanted to share:

How much do you have to eat to gain one pound?

We all know that it takes an extra 3500 calories to translate to one pound of weight gain but what does that actually look like? Well, seven large slices of pizza will pack on a pound in a single sitting. So will three pints of premium ice cream. You'll also want to watch out for the calorie-laden snacks mid afternoon. A bagel with cream cheese a day will pack on a pounda week, or 53 opunds in a year.
source: Oxygen

 I suppose if one is bulking this would be ok?
I could not eat the same thing every day for a whole year anyway. I like routine and familiar things, but doing that, I could not do.

Re: pack on the pounds

Bullshit! I happen to know for a fact one single slice of pizza will net me three pounds.......one damn brownie equals 5 pounds on my ass! Hahahahaha

Just funnin Chelle. :) However when one is trying to bulk up it's best to eat clean. With that said figure out how much food you'll eat to hit 3500 cals. That's the reason guys complain about having to eat so much when they bulk. If you're a PL then a little more fat on the frame is a good thing so you can relax your standards so to speak.

Re: pack on the pounds

Knowing 3500 calories equals 1 pound is imperative to weight gain or loss.

Look at this way. Once you determine a rough estimate of your daily metabolic rate, you can change your weight much easier.

If you burn on average 2200 calories a day, then by consuming 2700 (2200 + 500) a day you will be on pace to gain a pound a week. Same if you want to lose a pound a week.

So a rule of thumb would be, for every pound you want to gain in a week, add 500 calories a day.

Good find, now how would one go about figuring the amount of maintenance Cals one burns in a day? Would that be to only eat when you feel hungry for a week and just count those cals? Then of course add 500 or more a week. I don't really count cals I just eat what ever I can find.

Hey Cat here's a link to a site that has those RMR (resting metablic rate) devices. My boss went to a place here localy that administered the test....took like fifteen minutes and it gave him an idea of what his body needs on a daily basis as far as colories burned. You can buy an RMR device but the damn thing cost like $350! There's a section where you can find a place near you that can run the test. I've been thinking of doing this myself. knowing what your body requires for daily function should really help when you're trying to cut down.
