Isometrics is for a sure a good tool, depending on the area affected you could also add an unstable surface. Remember that you dont need a whole lot of weight to add muscle tone, and by gradually increasing workout intensity (not weight but rather the experience of tensions) your tendons will strengthen at a similar rate as the surrounding tissues.
