I love my road bike. I have a Giant TCR C3 and its awesome! I go riding out on the highways around town. If you're planning on doing biking solely on paved road, a road bike is the way to go. If you're doing ANY off-road, you'll have to get a moutain bike. They can get pretty expensive based on if you want a full-suspension moutain bike, or just front suspension. If you're doing casual biking, I'd go with just a front-suspension. Specialized make good moutain bikes, and have all ranges of prices.
