I prefer the treadmill because I can manually control my interval training. I never run, always walk, and I am insane about the incline. Also, I find that on the treadmill, I don't lose track of my heartrate, so as to not burn muscle instead of fat.

For those of you that may not know this or that may be afraid of doing cardio for fear of burning muscle (seems to be commonly said by men), the key is heartrate monitoring.

You can also burn fat while weight training by utilizing a heartrate monitor.

You want to work at 65% - 75% of your maximum heartrate in order to burn fat and not muscle. Once you get to 85% or higher, you are risking precious muscle.

If you are incorporating interval/crosstraining into your weight training, you can go up to 85% during drills but go back to weight training at that point and bring the heartrate back to 65%, work the heartrate up to 75% then implement drills until 85% and back again.

As far as interval treadmill training, I interval 65% and 75% heartrate.
